saved a backup to my computer from my ip6s so I could restore to my new ip7. when I try it says backup was corrupt or not compatible. have tried everything without success. any more suggestions, I especially need my contacts and pictures
please help

Your backup might not be compatible if your backup has been made by a newer iOS version than the one that is running on your iPhone 7, for example your 6s had 10.0.2 installed and the iPhone 7 is still on 10.0.1
If this is not the case and the backup is corrupt, your data is lost, sorry.
Are there any older backups in iTunes on your computer listed in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices?
If yes, try to install one of them to get at least some contact info back.
Any backups made to iCloud?
thanks so much, really disappointed nothing seems to work...surely Apple can work a " backup failed or corrupted" at the time of the backup itself...when you try to restore its too late :-(
